Born as Luc Klaasen in 1958 in Holland. Stopped his political science-study to become a taxi-driver in Amsterdam. In that same period he started his activities as musician (The Ex), making films (Mal Films) and was also one of the founders (and is still one of the responsible figures) of the CD distribution and production company ‘Konkurrent BV’.
THE EX --1983-2002
For almost 20 years he had been one of the main driving forces
in the band The Ex. He joined the group in 1983 and left in sept 2002. A
period where Luc Ex would never had become Luc Ex without the Ex, and visa
versa.
The Ex received large international recognition for there unconventional
and fresh inter- pretation of music and its different styles, working with
wide range of international musicians as Han Bennink, Tom Cora, Sonic Youth,
Fugazi, de Kift, Kurdische singer Brader, Lanaya from Mali etc. Their consistent
political attitude, their ‘organic way’ of making music and
the fact they kept their independancy from the big commercial music- business,
have always been higly appreciated. After they won the national dutch pop-price
‘BV POP prijs’ in 1991 this appreciation only got bigger. The
EX released over 20 CD’s, LP’s, video’s and 7”.
One of his last projects in The Ex was the EX ORKEST. A twenty piece big band with an enormous sounds and energy. (more info)
