Taken from a momentary inspiration, Luc Ex dreams up this odd juxtaposition of aural elements and personalities. Sourcing sound from samples, man handled loops, amplified wood, strings, hands deep in bass and invocations drawn up bodily through the voice in through a punctuation of controlled analog chaos. These three bring down, conjure and trigger these elements, weaving a bespoke sonic fabric, a vibe, always breathing for each performance.
* AUDREY CHEN has created an uncompromising and idiosyncratic music, tightly disciplined yet acoustically wild and heavy with implication. Her ultra-verbal vocalising, often reminiscent of the visceral and emotionally charged sound poetry of François Dufréne or Henri Chopin, exposes physiological aspects of utterance that are concealed within standardised articulation and day to day speech.” (Julien Cowley, The Wire)
* DJILLVIBE (aka Vincent von Schlippenbach) has been playing in hip-hop clubs since the age of 15. A member of abstract hop hop group Lychee Lassi since 1999, he remains active on Berlin’s club and free jazz scenes. His releases include Lok 03 (with Aki Takase & Alexander von Schlippenbach) (Leo Records 2005), Live at the Polnischen Versager (uniSono 2017), and Handsome Couple, featuring DJ Illvibe (Umland 2019)
* LUC EX was an original member of the punk/rock band THE EX. Since leaving the band in 2003, he has become a force for creative music-making and improvisation, driven by his punk roots and the Dutch experimental music scene” (Ottawa Jazz Festival 2017). LUC EX worked for many years in a quartet with Tom Cora, Phil Minton, and Michael Vatcher, which later became known as 4WALLS (with pianist Veryan Weston), Assemblee with Ab Baars, Ingrid Laubrock, and Hamid Drake.
